The goal of this project is to design a electric hoist winch to pick up over 1000 pounds 5ft in the air.

The system consists of a 46 to 1 worm gear drive compounded with a 3 to 1 pulley reduction with a timing belt ran to a 150 W DC electric motor

After further calculations the axial forces on the worm and spool were found to be greater than expected. With a 350lb axial force on the worm reinforced bearing supports were designed to bear this force for an infinite lifetime. A C-clip was added to keep the worm gear from sliding down the spool. After final testing the machine lifted over 1000 lbs with ease.
